In the summer of 2014, 89-year-old World War II veteran Bernard Jordan stages a secret "escape" from his care home, where he lives with his wife, René. Armed with nothing but a one-way ticket and his wife's quiet encouragement, he sets off on a solitary journey to France to attend the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings and pay his final respects to his fallen comrades. Marking their final, poignant screen appearances, screen legends Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson deliver masterclass performances, turning a real-life news story that captivated the world into a beautiful tribute to lifelong companionship and the passage of time.
