Cypriot Filmmakers: Ioakim Milonas

A discussion by Alexia Roider with short film director Joachim Mylonas. Joachim talked to us about his first steps in cinema, the political texture of the stories that inspire him, as well as the challenges a director faces today.

Joachim is the artistic director of the Cyprus International Short Film Festival, a member of the Cyprus Directors Union and the European Film Academy.

He studied Communication and Film at Anglia Polytechnic University in Cambridge. He went on to do an MA in Directing at the Northern Film School in Leeds, graduating with distinction. His films have participated and won awards in many film festivals around the world, while the film Pharmakon was the first official Cypriot entry in the competition section of the Venice Film Festival.
